McMonigle: Frustrated Malik Nabers needs a reality check

Malik Nabers sounded off on his lack of targets and the Giants play overall in the team’s 30-7 loss to the Bucs at home, deferring to head coach Brian Daboll when asked why he wasn’t more involved in the lopsided defeat.

Chris McMonigle took exception to those comments, and to other players sounding off on the loss, especially when players like Nabers pointed out that the quarterback change didn’t play a part in the loss.

“I could give you an idea on why you didn’t get the ball. Because nobody got the ball!” C-Mac said. “He passed for 10 yards in the first half!

“This is what drives me freaking crazy. How can you possibly say that it’s not the quarterback? Yeah, we’re all tired of losing, but the idea that it’s not the quarterback - and he’s calling out the head coach - but the idea that anyone can say it’s not the quarterback because it’s the same result as Daniel Jones…Daniel Jones couldn’t throw a touchdown in this building!”

C-Mac doesn’t understand how players would expect a sudden jolt in quarterback play, given the fact that DeVito clearly isn’t the answer, so to expect a new-look offense was a sign of being out of touch with reality.

“It’s not like they traded for someone, traded for [Jared] Goff or [Matthew] Stafford. They aren’t playing anyone of any consequence,” C-Mac said. “They’re playing an undrafted rookie known for selling pizza sauce and chicken cutlets! What are we talking about? You have a worse quarterback who hasn’t played all year, and it took him a half to get his feet out from under him.

“To stand up there and say it’s not the quarterback…we all know why they went to Tommy DeVito. You know too, Malik. It wasn’t because he’s better than Daniel Jones.”
