Chris McMonigle was in favor of keeping Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, even with the embarrassing past two seasons the Giants have had, highlighted by the miserable three-win campaign that came to a merciful end on Sunday.
But even as John Mara announced that he would indeed be sticking with the current regime for another year, C-Mac couldn’t help but feel uneasy about the decision that he would have went with himself, simply because the owner didn’t seem all that confident in the decision he was making.
“He sounded like he had no idea why he’s doing what he’s doing!” C-Mac said.
“I believe you can make a case to keep them…but when you listen to John Mara, he sounds completely defeated and lost in the situation that he’s in.”
Mara admitted that the Giants roster doesn’t look better now than it did before Schoen and Daboll were hired, and despite that realization, added that his patience is wearing thin and things better look better at this time next year. It will be hard to do that given the state of the team and next year’s grueling schedule, so C-Mac is trying to find exactly where Mara seemed to believe that he was making the right decision for the organization.
“Maybe the only thing that kept Brian Daboll and possibly Joe Schoen is because John Mara doesn’t know if he can make a hire, and doesn’t want to,” C-Mac said.
“What was jarring to me…it sounds like he was so beaten down by the poor decisions he has made since stepping into the ownership role…he hasn’t made a single hire that has turned into a positive one.”
