With the Mets looking dead in the water in Sunday’s winner-take-all game three against the Padres, Buck Showalter emerged from the dugout before the start of the bottom of the sixth to have a talk with the umpiring crew.

The umpires convened, chatted, than called over Padres manager Bob Melvin while checking the glove and hat of San Diego starter Joe Musgrove, who up to that point had shut down the Mets to the tune of one hit over five innings of work.

The umps checked Musgrove’s glove, hat, and even his ears, but after a thorough search, the umpires left Musgrove to continue his work on the mound while Manny Machado had some words towards the Mets dugout, laughing at the attempt to make sense of Musgroves’ dominance.

Minutes later, Musgrove was back to work on trying to end the Mets’ season.
