The Mets, and the rest of baseball, remain in a freeze as more talks will continue on Tuesday in an effort to agree on a new CBA and end the current lockout.
But New York was plenty busy before the lockout began, signing Max Scherzer, Eduardo Escobar, Starling Marte, and Mark Canha, and Audacy MLB insider Jon Heyman says the work could be far from over.
Per Heyman, the Mets might consider signing "another significant pitcher or hitter once the lockout ends," as owner Steve Cohen has already made it clear by signing Scherzer to a record-breaking deal that he means business heading into his second season at the helm. He already made a big splash heading into his first season as team owner, signing Francisco Lindor to a record extension.
With their many additions, their new manager in Buck Showalter and now a fully-assembled coaching staff, many thought the bulk of the Mets' offseason work was already accomplished. But the team could remain in play for other big-name free agents once the roster freeze ends, as ownership looks more and more motivated to end the franchise's five-year playoff drought.
Some of the top remaining free agents that would be seen as another big splash include Freddie Freeman, Kris Bryant, Nick Castellanos, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Rodon, Kenley Jansen, and Clayton Kershaw.
