Just hours after blasting a clutch home run in his first game of the season, prized prospect Mark Vientos was on the bench for the Mets' series finale against the Rays on Thursday afternoon.
Brett Baty got the start at third base, while Daniel Vogelbach was penciled in as the DH.
"Can't play two guys at third base," Showalter said of the decision to sit Vientos, who was called up on Wednesday to inject some life into a struggling lineup. "We knew when he came up that there's not going to be room every day. We'll see how it goes, it's day-to-day."
Needless to say, coming off the biggest win of the season, Mets fans were not happy about the decision to sit Vientos just hours after he played a major role in his season debut.
The fan base is finally excited after such a great win yesterday and then you put together this lineup. Just laughable, regardless of what happens today.
