Jacob deGrom continues to amaze, lowering his season ERA to 1.66 after striking out eight Pirates over seven scoreless innings in the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

As usual, deGrom’s teammates were left with the challenging task of putting the Mets ace’s dominance into proper context, a feat perhaps as difficult as plating a run against deGrom.

This time, his battery mate James McCann tried to describe what we’re witnessing with deGrom.

“He’s a special pitcher,” McCann said. “He’s one of those guys that you don’t see come around too often. Getting to play for him and getting to catch for him. He’s the kind of guy you tell your grandkids about.

“It's like a video game and he doesn't miss. He’s incredible.”
