It was a Mets therapy session on the Joe and Evan show Saturday morning, starting with the hosts themselves, who are now bracing for a disappointment of epic proportions after a bludgeoning by the Padres put New York on the brink of elimination Friday night.
“This is worse than ‘07. This is worse than ’08,” Evan said. “What they did to every Mets fan, is they made us believe. They made us, and I thought rightfully so, look at this team and say, ‘This is the greatest regular season Met team we’ve seen since ’86 or ’88.
“The position players and the supposed aces have all choked. They’ve all come up small.”

Evan and Joe agreed that a select few position players got a pass, like Jeff McNeil, Starling Marte, and Eduardo Escobar. But the rest of the team flopped in a crucial game, which was all too familiar to what happened the weekend before.
“I wasn’t feeling good coming into last night because of what happened in Atlanta,” Evan said. “That was the start of the postseason…and last night at Citi Field with an electric crowd, we did everything we could do inspire this dog crap team, and all of them came up small.
“I have absolutely no reason to believe any of that changes [Saturday].”
