Pete Alonso has reportedly hired the most recognizable agency in baseball to represent him as he enters his final season before free agency.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Alonso has hired the BorasCorp, run by superagent Scott Boras, known for negotiating massive contracts for top-tier players in free agency.

On the bright side for the Mets, as Heyman notes, the organization signed free agents Max Scherzer and Brandon Nimmo in recent years, and while an agreed deal with Carlos Correa fell apart due to concerns over his medicals, he was also a Boras client.

Alonso’s name has come up in trade rumors, while recent reports have said the slugging first baseman “wants” to join up with the Cubs, a team that reportedly has interest in trading for Alonso.

New president of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters at his introductory press conference on Monday that he expects Alonso to be the Mets Opening Day first baseman, but Alonso seems to be gearing up for a push at a big payday after next season.
