This time, their torment did not even stem from a game involving their own team.
With the Orioles hosting the Red Sox, former Met Luis Robert Jr. led off the bottom of the fourth and crushed a line-drive home run to left field. The very next at-bat saw Pete Alonso golf his 33rd home run of the season to right center, as two former Mets went back-to-back for their new team.
Robert was recently placed on waivers by New York, which elected to save some money by shedding the remainder of his salary in what has become a lost season. He was picked up by Baltimore and homered in just his second game in his new threads. After an injury-riddled Mets tenure that saw him hit .223 in just 58 games, Robert wasted little time making an impact with the O's.
For Alonso, his latest home run was the continued twisting of the knife into the side of Mets fans as he continues a phenomenal first season with the Orioles. Alonso has been swinging a scorching hot bat while leading the league in games plated and RBI.
