The Mets youth movement in the starting rotation reportedly continues.
According to multiple reports, including MILB.com’s Chase Ford, New York is calling up hyped pitching prospect Brandon Sproat, and the righty will make his big-league debut on Sunday to finish off a big series against the Reds.
Sproat joins Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong in a revamped Mets rotation, and so far, the kids have been more than alright. New York hasn’t lost a game in which McLean or Tong have started, as Tong dazzled in his debut, while McLean became the first rookie since Dodgers sensation Fernando Valenzuela to win each of his first four major league starts while logging more than 25 strikeouts.
Sproat, 24, is another highly-touted pitching prospect in the Mets organization. He has pitched to a 4.24 ERA in 121 innings at Triple-A this season. He tossed seven shutout innings in his last start.
With Sproat being promoted, Kodai Senga could be sent down to the minors if he accepts the assignment.
The promotion of Sproat makes for an exciting weekend for the Mets, who will start Tong on Saturday before Sproat’s debut on Sunday.
