Brett Baty’s demotion to the minor leagues was reportedly short lived.
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, Baty is being recalled to the big-league club in the wake of Jesse Winker’s injury, as Winker left Sunday’s game with an apparent oblique injury that will likely land him on the IL.
The open roster spot will now go to Baty, who logged just 10 at-bats for Triple-A Syracuse after being sent down on April 24.
Baty was optioned to Syracuse after Jeff McNeil returned from the IL, and he logged three hits in his latest minor league stint, as Baty has consistently thrived at Triple-A.
The issue has been Baty’s transition to the majors after playing well in the minors. In 19 big-league games this season, Baty hit just .204 with one home run, and in 188 career games, is slashing .214/.279/.328.
Baty joins a Mets team coming off two losses on Sunday against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
