Mets reportedly sign Bo Bichette to three-year deal to play third base

The Mets didn’t take long to make their Kyle Tucker pivot.

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, New York has signed free-agent shortstop Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million deal, barely 12 hours after Tucker signed a massive four-year deal with the Dodgers.

Per Sammon, Bichette will play third base given Francisco Lindor is the established shortstop, which could complicate the playing time of homegrown players like Brett Baty and Mark Vientos. Bichette, a two-time All-Star, has never manned the hot corner during his big-league career.

The 27-year-old has led the league in hits twice in his career, and was near the top of the leaderboard in 2025, even with a knee injury sidelining him at the end of the regular season and for a chunk of the playoffs. His three-run home run in game seven of the World Series was nearly one of the top moments in Blue Jays history before a crushing defeat at the hands of the Dodgers.

With Bichette in the fold, the Mets take another step towards replacing the production lost by Pete Alonso. Jorge Polanco and Marcus Semien represent the team’s other notable offseason additions so far.
