Kodai Senga is likely starting the season on the IL for the Mets, who now won’t have their ace for the early parts of 2024.

With a lot of question marks in the rest of the starting rotation, Keith says it’s time for Steve Cohen to finally open up the wallet again and go get one of the top pitchers still available in the open market.

“Step up! Go sign Jordan Montgomery today!” Keith said. “You have Boras’ number. Make it happen, Mets.

“You have to pivot. Go use that money that you have the richest owner in the sport for and say ‘OK, emergency. Our ace isn’t going to be ready for Opening Day, and Jordan Montgomery just won a World Series.’”

Keith believes the Mets can be better than many believe, but losing Senga hurts the team’s chances of earning a Wild Card berth in 2024. So, Montgomery is out there for the taking, and the Mets should pounce.

“He fits the mold of all the former Yankees you signed under Carlos Mendoza, former Yankee, I’m sure they know each other,” Keith said. “Go out and get him, plug him in, and then things feel a little better going into Opening Day.”
