According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Craig Counsell has made it known that he would embrace a return to the Brewers if they were to match his highest offer, including from the Mets.
C-Mac says that shouldn’t concern Mets fans, because Steve Cohen should make sure Milwaukee isn’t capable of matching any offer.
“This has been a worst-kept secret, and you know this is the guy they want,” C-Mac said. “I don’t know for sure. I’m not 100 percent positive…but I feel pretty confident in saying that Stearns and the Mets want Craig Counsell to manage this team...I’m sorry, but now is the time to go do Steve Cohen things.”
That means it’s time for Cohen to write a check that no other franchise, especially the Brewers, is willing to match, and make sure he has the right manager leading his team, considering Bruce Bochy just showed how important it is to have a capable skipper.
“What he did with Scherzer and Verlander is practically unprecedented in baseball, to eat all that money…that’s a superpower that your owner has, that nobody else has,” C-Mac said of Cohen. “This is when the owner steps in and calls Milwaukee, and you go, ‘What’s the highest number you’re going to give, because I’m going to give another dollar. Don’t play with me.’”
