The Mets have, as expected, traded Freddy Peralta to end what was a disastrous half-season in Queens.
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, New York has dealt Peralta to the Rays for three prospects, giving first-place Tampa another potential weapon in the starting rotation as it looks to hold off the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East.
The prospects going back to the Mets are Aidan Smith, Emilien Pitre, and Gary Gill Hill. Smith, an outfielder who just turned 22, is a former fourth-round pick who is batting .209 with a .693 OPS in the minors this season, seeing time in rookie ball and Single-A. Pitre, 23, is a former second-round pick who is batting .308 with an .885 OPS between High-A and Double-A this season. Gill Hill, a 21-year-old New York native, is a righty pitcher holding a 4.49 ERA in 108.1 innings in the minors this season, seeing time in High-A and Double-A.
Peralta, seen as the prized acquisition of the Mets offseason, was anything but. He pitched to a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts, a stark drop-off from his All-Star campaign in 2025 when he finished with a 2.70 ERA with the Brewers.
