Buck Showalter: Mets trying to get Daniel Vogelbach back to his 'track record'

Daniel Vogelbach had (another) night to forget on Tuesday, finishing 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the DH in a 6-4 Mets loss.

The hitless night dropped Vogelbach's OPS to .649 on the season, as the voices from the fanbase grow louder to make a change and dump the struggling DH from the roster.

For Buck Showalter, the objective is to try and get Vogelbach back to the player he was before he was traded to New York, and even immediately after, when he got off to a fast start with his new team last season.

"Any time somebody is not following their track record, you're trying to get him back to it," Showalter said. "He's frustrated. He knows how much better he's capable of and he really wants to help the team win, and it hasn't happened for him consistently yet.

"But he's not the only one."

Given Vogelbach's inflexibility on the roster in terms of playing a position in the field, his bat is paramount, and so far this season, he has not delivered, batting just .209 after his unfortunate hat trick on Tuesday.
