The Mets season continues to slip away from them after losing a series to the Red Sox on Sunday night, but the series finale did feature one of the strangest double plays you will ever see.

With a runner on first and nobody out in the bottom of the first, Masataka Yoshida bounced a Carlos Carrasco fastball to third, where Brett Baty charged and nabbed Yoshida at first for the out, while Jarren Duran, advancing to second on the play, charged for third, noticing it was unoccupied after Baty had to charge to field the weak grounder.

Pete Alonso fired across the diamond to third, where Carrasco had hurried over to try and cover the bag. But Carrasco tried to apply the tag too quickly, as the ball sailed past where his glove had been, and Duran darted for home. Mark Canha charged in from left field, played the ball off the low wall down the third base line, and fired home to Omar Narvaez, who tagged out a sliding Durran for the second out.

Just a casual 5-3-1-7-2 double play.

Carrasco was banged up on the play at third, but after some warm-up pitches, he stayed in the game.
