The pick is in on the Nets' hopeful next young star.
Brooklyn has selected Louisville guard Mikel Brown Jr. with the sixth overall pick in Tuesday night's NBA Draft, bolstering the backcourt and hopefully adding a legit shooting threat to Jordi Fernandez's offense.
The 21-year-old missed time to a back injury in his freshman season with the Cardinals, but when healthy, he was dynamic, averaging 18.2 points and 4.7 assists per game. Seen as an elite shot maker that can play both ends of the floor, Brown emerged as the favorite for the Nets to select with their highest draft pick in 23 years, and as much of the top five picks went by way of chalk, Brown was there for the Nets to pounce. Brown met with the team multiple times heading into the draft, and clearly the Nets liked what they saw.
Brown joins a young Brooklyn squad that recently shipped out Nic Claxton in a three-team deal that brought in Julius Randle from the Timberwolves, a veteran who will be surrounded by youngsters like Brown.
