Joe Giglio asked ESPN's Buster Olney for his most confident Phillies hot stove prediction.
“They’re going to get a star," Olney said on Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show. "I have no doubt—One general manager put it as, ‘World Series tilt.’
"They’re in that vain. The Yankees are in that vain. The Padres are in that vain.”
Olney mentioned both White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet and free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman as possibilities.
When asked specifically about the biggest free-agent in Juan Soto, Olney believes ultimately Steve Cohen and the New York Mets will over pay and land him.
“I think in the end the Mets are going to wind up separating themselves from all other teams," Olney said of Soto. "We’re going to see a crazy number in the end. If you’re the Phillies are you going to outbid the richest owner?…The Yankees?…The Blue Jays?”
Olney also confirmed reports that the Phillies are open to trading third baseman Alec Bohm.
"He’s not going to be a good defensive third baseman," Olney said when speaking about the perception of Bohm around the league. "[Other teams] do like the bat. Their eyebrows are raised that the Phillies are open to trading him.”
