Rangers name Jacob Trouba first team captain since 2018

At long last, the Rangers have named their 28th captain in franchise history.

The team announced Tuesday morning that Jacob Trouba will wear the "C" on his sweater next season, as the defenseman will become the team's first captain since Ryan McDonagh back in 2018.

"Since he joined the Rangers, Jacob has consistently displayed all of the qualities we want in a leader on and off the ice," general manager Chris Drury said in a press release. "As we look to take the next step as an organization, he is a role model for all of our players to follow and the perfect choice to be our captain."

Trouba, an alternate captain last season when the Blueshirts made a run to the Eastern Conference Final, was congratulated by teammates in a video shared by the Rangers Twitter account on Tuesday morning.

Heading into his fourth season with the Rangers, Trouba played in 81 regular season games last season, logging 39 points, and added another five in the postseason.
