It’s been known for some time that Andrew Benintendi is on the Yankees’ radar as a rental at the trade deadline – but he’s apparently not the only Royals outfielder in that scope.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Yankees are also interested in Michael A. Taylor, who won a Gold Glove in center field last year and is hitting .265 with a career-best .342 on-base percentage this season.
Taylor, now 31, had a career year in Washington back in 2017, but did not again live up to that pedigree until slashing .244/.297/.356 with 12 homers, 54 RBI and 14 steals in his Gold Glove 2021.
He only has five homers, 24 RBI, and one steal in 2022 so far, but he would not be a rental; Taylor is in the first year of a two-year, $9 million deal he signed with Kansas City last September, so he would be under control for 2023.
Adding Taylor would likely also move Aaron Hicks to left and Aaron Judge back to right full-time, clouding the status of Joey Gallo.
