The Red Sox are bringing back a familiar face - and Massachusetts native - to help bolster their starting rotation.
According to a major league source, the Sox and Rich Hill are in agreement on terms for a one-year deal.(The Boston Globe was first to report news of the deal.)
Hill jumpstarted his career with the Red Sox in 2015 thanks to four late-season starts in which he totaled a 1.55 ERA in 29 innings. That performance - which was his second stint with the Sox after playing in Boston from 2010-12 - paved the way for a one-year contract with Oakland.
The lefty ultimately got his biggest payday from the Dodgers thanks to a three-year deal, a stint that saw him go 27-13 with a 3.21 ERA. Since his departure from Los Angeles, Hill has pitched for the Twins, Rays and Mets.
He split the 2021 season between Tampa Bay and New York, combining for 158 2/3 innings and a 3.86 ERA.
Hill has made 12 postseason starts, during which he has managed a 3.06 ERA.
He is a graduate of Milton High and still lives in the area during the offseason.
The Red Sox have now signed three starting pitchers this offseason - Michael Wacha, James Paxton and Hill - all to one-year deals.
Other teams that showed legitimate interest in Hill the Mets, Rangers, Giants and Twins.
