Rutgers is going to be running it back with both Geo and Harp next season.

Just ahead of the midnight deadline to finalize NBA Draft plans, Scarlet Knights swingman Ron Harper Jr. announced on Instagram that he is coming back to school, after having previously declared for the draft.

The announcement came a few hours after Geo Baker also announced he will return to school for his final season instead of testing the Draft, after neither was invited to the NBA’s Scouting Combine.

Harper was a junior last season, and has started 76 of the 89 games he has played for the Scarlet Knights. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.9 boards over 27 games last season around an ankle injury, and has averaged 11.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game over his time in Piscataway.

The son of 15-year NBA vet and five-time NBA Champion Ron Harper Sr., Harper Jr. will have two years of eligibility remaining should he choose to use it, thanks to the NCAA’s decision to give players an extra year of eligibility after last season’s COVID-19 related scheduling changes.

Harper and Baker’s returns will help the Scarlet Knights offset the losses of four transfers, including Jacob Young, who will play his extra year at Oregon next season after two years at Texas and two in Piscataway.

Rutgers also lost three rising seniors in Myles Johnson (transfer to UCLA), Montez Mathis (St. John’s), and Mamadou Doucoure (LaSalle), and little-used senior Nick Brooks intimated in an Instagram post after the Scarlet Knights’ season ended that he would not use his extra year of eligibility.
