Saturday’s home finale wasn’t close to the result Rutgers wanted – not only a loss to eliminate them from bowl eligibility, but a blowout one to Penn State at that – but they did have a couple bright moments.
The first: the announced crowd of 55,676 gave Rutgers its all-time single-game attendance record, and also set a single-season record for highest average attendance at home, at 50,756 per game.
The other: punter Adam Korsak, a three-time captain for the Scarlet Knights, set the all-time NCAA records for career punts (339) and most punting yards (14,876) in NCAA history, and increased his streak to 150 punts without a touchback. He also has an NCAA record for net punt yardage, as special teams behind him have kept opponents to a ridiculous negative-10 return yards.
Korsak is on the watch list for the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation’s top punter, after being a runner-up to San Diego State’s Matt Araiza last year.
