Sal: Jets taking on a 'superteam' identity, which could backfire

The Jets made another big offseason splash by signing Dalvin Cook to a one-year deal, but it isn’t one that has Sal particularly excited.

In fact, Sal is worried the Jets might be acquiring too many big names, to the point where it could become a detriment.

“They didn’t need another big name,” Sal said. “I understand on paper it looks great. It’s another one of those things to me, another one of these superteams, kind of what Sean Payton was talking about, they generally don’t work out.

“They didn’t need Cook…I don’t think this is a great thing for this team with already sky-high expectations. Now adding Cook, the expectations are through the roof. I don’t think they can live up to it.”

Sal believed the Jets already had what they needed in their running back room, and signing Dalvin Cook seems like “overkill” that can backfire.

“Not to mention, there’s one football,” Sal said. “Breece Hall is an explosive playmaker. Are the Jets really that concerned about him coming back? I even liked Michael Carter…Bam Knight, they have some options. You don’t need the star player. There’s one ball. There are egos now involved.

“We’ve seen this before, and it doesn’t work out.”
