Sal could barely let Jerry get through his open to begin Thursday's show before declaring that he was officially back in on the 2023 Mets.
"THE METS ARE BACK, JERRY!" Sal screamed. "Yes! Are you kidding me?
"They are back, Jerry! That is the type of win that shows you they are going on a little bit of a run here…it gives me goosebumps thinking about it. I watched the highlight five times. It was Piazza-like. Alvarez has had a flair for the dramatic…oh baby, the Mets are back!"
Suddenly, not long after believing the season might be over, four straight wins have sucked Sal right back in, and he is back to checking the Wild Card standings to see the Mets' progress as they look to life themselves from months of disappointing play.
"At least the next three teams in front of them, the Mets will leapfrog those teams before the All-Star break, and that will change everything, because now you're only looking at three teams in front of you," Sal said. "I'm in, I'm back. I was out, I didn't even want to watch the Mets a week ago. Now I'm back. I'm back in."
