BT began Monday’s show by going off on the NCAA Tournament selection committee, declaring that St. John’s and the Big East “got absolutely bent over and screwed.”
Sal countered with the opinion that the teams that were snubbed really screwed themselves by leaving wins on the table.
“The committee didn’t screw St. John’s or Seton Hall. St, John’s and Seton Hall screwed St. John’s and Seton Hall,” Sal said. “You gotta leave no doubt. “I don’t want to hear about bubble teams, first four in, first four out. St. John’s didn’t do enough. They woke up when Rick Pitino called them out, they won six in a row, great, they won a game in the Big eats Tournament, great. If they would have beaten UConn, that would have been enough. If they won more in the beginning of the regular season, that would have been enough.
“I don’t care what the numbers or metrics say. They left it up to the committee. You can’t do it. St. John’s didn’t get screwed by the committee. They screwed themselves by not being good enough all year long. That goes for the Big East too.”
Sal wonders if there is a local bias on the east coast, and the Big East is overhyped in our area while being looked at more critically on a national scale. In the end, he believes the Johnnies would have punched their ticket had they just won a few more winnable regular season games, or complete the upset against UConn on Saturday.
