Sal: Yankees starting rotation has some problems that were exposed in Boston

After the Yankees dropped two of three to the Red Sox this past weekend, Sal says there are some legitimate concerns when it comes to the starting rotation, which has been such a strength for the team all season.

“Whether it’s Rodon, Stroman, guys in the bullpen. Against a team that can be tough and scrappy in their bullpen, Rodon didn’t have it, Stroman didn’t have it, and all of a sudden, the Yankees got exposed to a certain extent,” Sal said. “If Rodon showed that he could do that on any given night, especially in a tougher environment and that ballpark…why would I trust him going into October? Or Stroman for that matter too.”

Carlos Rodon looked shaky at best on Saturday night, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings of work, while Marcus Stroman struggled to hold runners all night in Sunday’s loss. Both of those arms expect to be in the playoff rotation, and Sal worries that it will be enough to win a World Series.

“Who’s pitching in October? It’s gotta be someone other than Cole,” Sal said. “We hope Gil…I know Cole will be fine come October. I don’t know for sure if Gil is gonna be able to go.”

BT pointed to Gerrit Cole as why he isn’t concerned about the rotation right now.

“Gerrit Cole is coming back,” BT said. “In a lot of ways, Gerrit Cole is going to represent the biggest midseason acquisition in Yankees history perhaps.”
