David Stearns began his first full day as Mets president of baseball operations on Tuesday, and Sal believes the trinity of Stearns, Steve Cohen, and Billy Eppler will construct a run of sustained success that will look like the current Dodgers or the Yankees of the past.
"They have an owner who will do whatever it takes to win, they now have a president who has had success, they have a smart general manager who isn't afraid to make a tough decision, and they do have some talent," Sal said. "They are going to build this thing to sustainable success.
"I feel more confident about believing in that hierarchy and structure than I do any other team in this town….I'm talking about sustained success, longevity, potential multiple championships. Starting now through the next decade, I truly, firmly believe the Mets will be like the Dodgers and have that type of sustained success, like the Yankees had in the past."
The Dodgers just won their 10th NL West title in 11 years, and won 100 games for the fifth time in their last six seasons. Since 2017, they have been to the World Series three times, winning one in 2020. Sal believes the Mets are on tap for a similar string of sustained dominance.
"If I am buying stock in a New York sports team," Sal said. "I am putting all my money into the Mets stock."
