RJ Barrett struggled again for the Knicks in Tuesday’s game two loss, shooting just 4-for-13 from the field while missing all three of his 3-point attempts in Cleveland.
Sal Licata, who had already vented his frustrations about Barrett after his shooting struggles in game one, blew a gasket watching Barrett throw up bricks on Tuesday, and blew another after hearing Barrett assess his game after the fact.
“It’s one thing to maintain confidence, but you can’t say you’re not worried about it, when you suck at shooting the basketball!” Sal said. “His response is, ‘I made some free throws. Well hell, I hope so! You are in the NBA, right?
“RJ Barrett does not belong in the NBA. He does not shoot well enough to belong in the league! I’ll find somebody off the street that will play better defense than RJ Barrett, and will probably shoot better.”
Sal said Barrett has no business being OK with seven free throw attempts, especially when driving to the basket and getting to the line is the only productive part of his game.
“Dude, get to the line 20 times if you want to be productive,” Sal said. “All you can do is attack the rim. You should not shoot a jumper. I would trust Dennis Rodman’s jumper more than I would RJ Barrett.”
As Sal said after game one, Barrett should not be used in critical minutes down the stretch, and nothing he saw from game two is changing his mind.
“RJ Barrett is the worst shooting guard/small forward I have ever seen,” Sal said. “Ever!”
