As the GM Meetings are underway in California, and the Mets still don’t have a GM.

The team had an interim general manager in Zack Scott after Jared Porter was fired for sending inappropriate messages and photos to a female reporter during his time with the Cubs, but Scott will not be returning to New York’s front office as he awaits trial for a DUI arrest.

Mets team president Sandy Alderson, in attendance at the GM meetings, wished Scott well, while also telling reporters that Scott would not be returning to the organization regardless of the outcome of his December trial.

“Just the general uncertainty around the situation that he faced, and not knowing how that uncertainty would be resolved in December,” Alderson said. “I think we felt that it was just best for us, and potentially for him as well, that we made that decision.”

Scott, who pleaded not guilty after he was charged with drunk driving in White Plains back in early September, was placed on administrative leave shortly after he was caught sleeping in his car at 4:17 a.m. But Alderson gave Scott his best when he told the 44-year-old that they would be parting ways.

“I've talked to him, wished him well,” Alderson said. “He's a good man.”

Scott helped bring in Javier Baez and Rich Hill before the trade deadline, but the Mets had already begun their second-half freefall by the time he was placed on leave. Now, New York will continue to search for his replacement, after Scott was considered a candidate for the full-time job before his arrest.

“In my view, Zack did an excellent job for us,” Alderson said. “I thought he was constantly working the wire and trying to make the club better. It was his first year acting as a general manager, so there were going to be mistakes. I make mistakes every year. So there were a few of those. But generally speaking, he did an excellent job for us.”
