Scott Effross off Yankees ALDS roster, needs Tommy John surgery: Report

Scott Effross was a surprising exclusion from the Yankees’ ALDS roster, but per YES Network’s Jack Curry, his absence is due to an elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery.

Effross’ loss is the latest in a trade deadline class riddled with injuries, as Frankie Montas is out with a shoulder injury and Andrew Benintendi is still working his way back from a hand injury. Lou Trivino remains the lone notable remaining healthy deadline acquisition.

Effross, who the Yanks hoped to be a big part of their bullpen in high-leverage spots, battled injury since arriving in New York, and finished the season throwing just 12.2 innings in pinstripes.

Effross joins Michael King, Chad Green, Ron Marinaccio, and Zack Britton as key Yankee relievers that will not factor into the ALDS, and most of them for the rest of the season.
