Social media reacts to Eagles seemingly tanking NFC East-deciding game

With a lengthy injury report, the healthy scratch of Alshon Jeffery and Carson Wentz being made inactive, the Philadelphia Eagles attempted to do a soft tank in their season finale against The Washington Football Team Sunday.

At a certain point in the second half, the attempt to tank became not-so-soft.

Rather than kicking what would have been a game-tying field goal late in the third quarter, Doug Pederson, who reportedly is expected to return in 2021, kept his offense on the field and had them make an unsuccessful attempt on fourth-and-goal from the four-yard line.

On the next drive, Nate Sudfeld, a healthy inactive for much of the season, replaced Hurts. Sudfeld was picked off in his first drive, before fumbling and losing a low snap from center Jason Kelce on the second drive.

Though Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth attempted to dance around it, the Eagles rather blatantly attempted to lose the final game of the 2020 regular season.

While it was a bit shocking how obvious they made it, there's certainly a fair case to be made that the Eagles handled this correctly. A win for the Eagles, already eliminated from playoff contention, would have meant nothing other than lowering their draft selection to No. 9. A loss would guarantee the Eagles the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, leaving them the chance to potentially select Ja'Marr Chase, Devonta Smith or even potentially a quarterback.

However, Giants fans weren't quite as understanding. With a win Sunday over the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants moved to 6-10, which incredibly gave them a chance to win the NFC East if the Eagles defeated Washington Sunday night. As you can imagine, Giants players and fans weren't thrilled with the Eagles seemingly not putting their best foot forward.

And so, social media was an interesting place Sunday night, one that featured a few different camps.
