PFL lightweight Shane Burgos joined the latest episode of The Fight Fan with Pete Hoffman to talk about his upcoming playoff bout with Clay Collard at Madison Square Garden.

But Burgos also talked about his move from UFC to PFL, where he believes he is in a position for a bigger payday, including the $1 million cash prize that awaits the winner of these PFL playoffs, concluding on Nov. 24 at The Garden.

“That’s the ultimate goal. Who doesn’t want an extra mil in the bank?” Burgos said. “That means everything to me.

“I think it’s becoming more common for guys to fight out their contracts and see what they’re worth. It doesn’t make sense to not do it…the first time I fought it out, PFL gave me a nice offer, but I took less and stuck with UFC, but I bet on myself and put myself in an even better position to get an even better offer from PFL the second time around…it was just too good for me to say no to. I loved being in the UFC, but I love being in the PFL just as much, honestly. They treat me phenomenally, they pay me way more than the UFC. And I got paid good in the UFC. Not great, but good…that’s just me speaking my absolute truth.”

Burgos will take on Collard in the lightweight semifinals on Aug. 23, leading up to the championship bouts in November, the culmination of a one-of-a-kind MMA season where fighters compete in a regular season and playoff format like other major sports.

The action begins on Friday at MSG.
