It didn't take long at all for Fairleigh Dickinson head coach Tobin Anderson to find a bigger job after leading the Knights to an improbable win over No. 1 seed Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
According to college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Anderson has informed FDU that he is accepting the head coaching job at Iona, ending his tenure at Fairleigh Dickinson head coach after just one season.
It was a monumental season for Anderson, to say the least. After finishing as the runner-up in the NEC, the Knights were awarded the automatic March Madness bid due to conference champion Merrimack not yet completing its transition to Division-I. Anderson and FDU responded by stunning the Boilermakers in the first round, becoming the second team in March Madness history to beat a top seed as a 16 seed. Fairleigh Dickinson's run came to an end in a tight battle with Florida Atlantic in the second round on Sunday night.
Anderson replaces Rick Pitino, who is taking the St. John's job after leading the Gaels of the MAAC to two straight 30-win seasons and back-to-back March Madness appearances.
