Per reports, the Jets were one of two finalists for Tyreek Hill, who the Dolphins acquired Wednesday in a blockbuster trade sending five draft picks to Kansas City. New York’s interest in Hill turned heads with many surprised the Jets would sacrifice valuable draft capital for a player viewed as more of a luxury than a necessity. That’s not to say GM Joe Douglas shouldn’t be doing all he can to improve the Jets’ roster, but let’s face it—it’s going to take a lot more than a Pro Bowl receiver (albeit one with 26 combined touchdowns over his last two seasons) to get this team over the hump.

Of course, that’s all a moot point because Hill is now a Dolphin and, judging by his remarks during Thursday’s introductory press conference, joining the Jets was never a consideration. “Who? The Jets?” asked Hill, scoffing at the notion of playing in the Big Apple. “Nah, man. I was going to pick Miami no matter what.”

The trade happened so fast, Jets fans didn’t even have a chance to get their hopes up. Just as he does each Sunday during football season, Hill was gone in a flash, living up to his “Cheetah” nickname by signing with the Dolphins in record time (his $30-million AAV makes him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history). The Jets figure to see plenty of Hill in the coming years now that he’s arrived in the AFC East, which comes as more bad news for a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in over a decade.
