Zach Wilson didn’t have the best first half of his NFL career – 6 of 16 for 84 yards, with one interception – but that’s perhaps not the worst part of the first half for Gang Green fans.

Witness below: with less than five minutes left in the second quarter, Sam Darnold threw his first touchdown pass of 2021…a 57-yarder to fellow ex-Jet Robby Anderson:

Even worse? That was the only play of the drive, as the Jets turned the ball over on downs on the Carolina 43 when Tevin Coleman was stuffed on 4th-and-1.

Double even worse? With just 35 seconds left in the half, Darnold scampered in for a five-yard touchdown run, ending a seven-play, 62-yard drive that began with just 2:35 left.

Darnold and Anderson had good chemistry in their two seasons together in New York, but the Jets decided to let Anderson go in free agency prior to last season, and he had a career season with 95 catches for 1,096 yards and three scores with Carolina in 2020.

If there’s any silver lining, it’s this: kicker Ryan Santoso, who the Giants traded to Carolina for a conditional seventh-round pick at the end of camp, missed the extra point on the Anderson touchdown, so it was only 16-0 instead of 17-0 at the half.
