Anyone who has worked at or listened to WFAN long enough knows that Craig Carton is often quick to make plans for things…and sometimes they actually happen.
Well, on Monday morning, Craiggy called into Boomer & Gio with some new deets: apparently, there’s going to be a WFAN-sponsored charity softball game on Thursday, March 31, at roughly 6 p.m. at the College of Staten Island, to raise money for stadium workers. We’ve even got uniforms and everything! Well, in theory, anyway, because that’s still in the works with Audacy.
March 31 was scheduled to be MLB Opening Day, but instead, it’s going to be a WFAN day at CSI, with both Tiki & Tierney and Carton & Roberts broadcasting live from the site, and part of the game to be broadcast live on WFAN before whatever leads into Nets/Bucks coverage at 7:20 (it’s a home game so maybe an extended Keith McPherson hit?) that night.
The problem: seems no one ever actually confirmed any of this with anyone on the morning show, and Craig didn’t even have full details on the game itself when he called in.
Unfortunately, Al Dukes wants no part of it, for various reasons – mostly that he doesn’t want to go from Staten Island in the evening, back home to Bradley Beach, and not get a full night’s sleep before Friday’s morning show.
Sounds plausible, but poor Al doubled down later on, claiming stadium workers are already getting money and they can just go get jobs anywhere else right now. A stark contrast to his 5-6 a.m partner Jerry Recco, another Jersey native, who is down to go coach one of the bases – and why he’s the reigning Pulse of the People Award winner.

“After some of the things we’ve done, 6 p.m. on Staten Island sounds like a dream,” Jerry said.
As for Al?
“We should have an event at 2 a.m. and see who shows up.”
Mark it down: March 7, the day Al Dukes probably ran himself out of consideration to succeed his Warm-Up Show partner as the Pulse of the People Award winner for 2022.
Jerry and THE Eddie Scozzare mashed up a little of the convo as the Moment of the Day above, and below, you can listen to Craig’s entire call, starting about 36:30 into the Hour 3 podcast of the show!
