Wink Martindale seems to have overplayed his hand with his exit from the Giants.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the former Giants defensive coordinator has accepted the same role with Michigan, heading down to the college level to help the reigning national champions in life after Jim Harbaugh.

Former Wolverines defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is now in the same role with the Chargers.

Martindale, after reported friction with Brian Daboll, reportedly stormed out of the Giants facility after members of his staff were let go, and the two sides agreed to part ways. But Martindale, who helped New York's defense settle in after a disastrous start to last season, couldn't have envisioned not finding a job in the NFL this offseason.

Per Schefter, the deal is still being finalized.
