The Yankees have acquired Alex Verdugo from the Red Sox, according to multiple reports.
The Bombers send to Boston reliever Greg Weissert, along with prospects Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice.
Verdugo, 27 is a former second-round pick who hit .264 with 12 home runs and a .745 OPS. He came over to Boston in the trade that sent Mookie Betts to the Dodgers.
Across his seven-year career, Verdugo is hitting .281 with a .765 OPS.
The trade likely means the Yanks won’t be going for Cody Bellinger, though reports indicate they are still pushing for a Juan Soto trade.
