A third Leiter will now be pitching for the Yankees.
According to multiple reports, the Yanks have acquired Cubs reliever Mark Leiter Jr. in exchange for Ben Cowles and Jack Neely. Leiter joins Al and Mark Sr. as members of the Leiter family to pitch in pinstripes.
Leiter currently holds a 4.21 ERA in 36.1 innings of work, but brings the Yankees some much-needed swing-and-miss stuff out of the bullpen, striking out 53 batters in that span.
The 33-year-old is from nearby Toms River, and will not hit free agency until 2027.
Cowles, a middle infielder, is a 24-year-old who was batting .294 with Double-A Somerset, while Neely, also 24, has a 2.81 ERA in Triple-A.
