The Yankees have indeed made a deal on the precipice of the 2023 trade deadline, acquiring RHP Keynan Middleton from the White Sox, per Jeff Passan.
Middleton, 29, was 2-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 39 appearances for the White Sox. In 36 1/3 innings, he allowed 16 earned runs with 33 hits and 16 walks against 47 strikeouts.
He becomes the latest player moved in a big sell-off for the White Sox, but one that will definitely need to find a new number – the pending free agent wore No. 99 in Chicago, which obviously will not be ceded by Aaron Judge.
The Yankees will owe Middleton about one-third of his $750,000 salary for 2023, so he is a minimal addition to the Yankees' tax payroll.
This is a developing story.
