The Yankees dropped their first series of the season on Thursday afternoon, as their offsense continued its disappearance that lingered for much of the three-game set against the A's.

Thursday's 1-0 loss in the series finale marked the first time in 10 years that the Bombers dropped a series to the A's at home, and also continued an active streak that has now reached 17 innings in which the Yanks have not scored a run.

Jeffrey Springs continued his career dominance against New York with seven shutout innings, not allowing a hit until a Ben Rice ground ball single in the bottom of the seventh. It would be the only hit Rice and the Yanks generated against Springs and the A's bullpen.

The 8-4 Yanks have lost consecutive games for the first time in the young season, and both losses were by one run, as the Yankees fanned 15 times against Luis Severino and company on Wednesday night. The Yankees jumped on their former teammate for two runs in the first inning of Wednesday's loss, and haven't pushed a run across since.

According to Stathead's Katie Sharp, Thursday's defeat is the first time since 1958 that the Yankees lost a 1-0 game while recording one hit or fewer. Sharp also notes that the 2026 Yanks dropped to 0-4 on the year in games decided by one run, meaning all of their losses have come in one-run games.

Lineup tweaks did not awaken the offense on Thursday, as Randal Grichuk went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts against the lefty Springs, and Amed Rosario went hitless at the top of the order (albeit with two walks as well). Aaron Judge went 0-for-4, including a weak groundout to end the bottom of the eighth when he represented the go-ahead run.

The Yankee bats will look to warm up in Tampa as they head down for a three-game stint with the Rays, their first AL East battle of the season.
