Boomer & Gio have already seen enough of Ronald Guzman: 'He's a waste'

The Yankees grabbed a doubleheader sweep from the Twins on Wednesday, but it nearly started with a maddening extra-inning loss that saw the team squander multiple scoring opportunities, most notably a bases-loaded rally with nobody out in the bottom of the 11th.

It was certainly a Yankee debut to forget for the recent call-up, who bounced into a 3-2-3 double play in that 11th inning rally after striking out four times. His hustle down the line on the double play was widely criticized, and Boomer and Gio joined in on Thursday.

“Guzman, he’s a waste,” Boomer said. “Come on. How about him looking behind as he’s running down first base? He’s looking over his shoulder. What are you looking over your shoulder for? It just looked bad.

“Now you know why this guy’s not in the majors, why he’s stuck down in the minors.”

Gio believes Guzman will be right back down in the minors once the Yankees finally get some healthy bodies back, but Guzman’s painful debut made the Yankees’ frustrated extra innings (at least before the 12th inning walk-off) unwatchable.

“When it takes 75 injuries for him to surface into the major leagues, that’s exactly why,” Gio said. “I had to shut it off. I watched the last episode of Hard Knocks. I was like ‘I’m getting ready for football, I can’t take this anymore.’”
