The Yankees are officially returning to the postseason.
The Bombers' eighth-inning rally in Minnesota on Monday night secured an 8-3 win and clinched a playoff berth for the ninth time in 10 years.
The 2023 campaign remains the only time the Yanks missed the postseason since Aaron Judge's rookie season.
Speaking of Judge, the Yankee captain finally got back into the home run column, swatting a massive three-run home run in that eighth inning for the first homer since his return from injury. Judge, along with his teammates, popped champagne in the locker room after the victory to celebrate the first step towards their ultimate goal.
The Yankee fanbase has grown accustomed to regular playoff appearances and are much more focused on ending a 17-year championship drought, but still, achieving this first step is something to at least be acknowledged. The Yanks missed Judge for more than three months, still have not gotten Giancarlo Stanton back, missed Cody Bellinger for an extended period, and have had key pitchers like Gerrit Cole, Max Fried (twice), Clarke Schmidt, Fernando Cruz, and Ryan Weathers on the IL at different points this season.
The 2026 campaign marks the 34th straight time that the Yanks have finished with a winning season, and since 1995, a span of 31 years, the Bombers have missed the playoffs just five times. It has been a remarkable run of efficiency, but now, the focus shifts to attaining the organization's true goal, and 2026 will present as good a chance as ever given the wide-open American League.
