The Yankees have made the expected move of placing Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day IL with a right calf strain.
Stanton came up lame running the bases against the Astros in Friday night's series opener in Houston, and was quickly taken out of the game. He has not appeared in a game since, and while he told reporters he was feeling better the day after, MRI results revealed enough of a strain to sit the oft-injured slugger for a bit more time.
Manager Aaron Boone would not commit to Stanton returning once the 10 days on the IL are up, and likely for good reason, as Stanton has notoriously had issues returning quickly from lower-body injuries. He has not played a full season since his debut campaign in pinstripes back in 2018.
Stanton is hitting .256 on the year with three home runs and a .724 OPS.
Infield prospect Max Schuemann was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move, though Jasson Dominguez will likely see more playing time, as he was recently recalled as well.
