No one quite beat up a water cooler the way Paul O’Neill did, so the New York Yankees made sure to get him the perfect gift for his number retirement ceremony.

As O’Neill was honored at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, he was showered with gifts, including a commemorative water cooler with No. 21 plastered on it.

But what made it even better is that the cooler also had a replica bat speared through it to encapsulate O’Neill’s feelings toward the water coolers.

As Yankees trainer Steve Donohue brought the cooler out to O’Neill, he placed it on the ground where the Yankees legend gave it a nice little kick for old time’s sake.

The O’Neill ceremony was a blast form the past for Yankees fans, as Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera were all on hand to honor O’Neill.

David Cone, Don Mattingly, Joe Torre and Derek Jeter all left video messages for him, too.

O’Neill’s speech thanked the fans and organization and as he wrapped things up he nearly forgot to call out the Bleacher Creatures, who chanted his name during first-inning roll call like old times.
