As the Yankees continue their search for starting pitching help in the wake of Yoshinobu Yamamoto signing with the Dodgers, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the team has “sincere interest” in Dylan Cease.
Per Rosenthal, the Orioles, armed with one of the top farm systems in baseball, also have strong interest, so it will remain to be seen whether or not the Yanks would be able to come up with the prospect package necessary to win the bidding for Cease, especially after the Bombers dealt from their depth to acquire Juan Soto earlier this offseason.
The White Sox are likely to trade Cease, who has two years of team control left, given the team’s transition into a rebuild. The 28-year-old was the runner-up for the American League Cy Young Award in 2022 before taking a step back last season, pitching to a 4.58 ERA. Still, he possesses strong swing and miss stuff to provide hope that he can get back to his 2022 form.
The Yanks have also reportedly discussed top free agents Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery.
