Luis Severino was burned by one pitch on Thursday night, a fastball on the outside corner that Alex Bregman turned on and hit into the Crawford boxes for a three-run home run in an eventual 3-2 win.
Speaking about his outing after the game, and the one pitch that he needed back, Severino pointed to Bregman’s contact compared to Aaron Judge’s deep flyout in the eighth inning, and said the Astros “got lucky” by taking game two.
“I threw a great pitch. He hit it at 91 mph. That's the only thing I'm gonna say,” Severino said. “And Judge hit it at 106 mph and it didn't go out. I don't know, they got lucky.”
“I didn’t know at the beginning how hard he hit it, but when I saw the iPad - I knew the wind was blowing, that was the only reason it got out - I made a good pitch in that situation there, and that’s it.”
Severino looked to hit the target set by Kyle Higashioka on the outside corner, but Bregman was ready for it and jumped on it, and it was all the offense the Astros needed to take a 2-0 series lead, and the only time they were able to get to Severino over 5.1 innings of work.
