We are watching one of the most feeble offensive stretches in Yankee history

The Yankees are currently laboring through one of their most feeble stretches in franchise history, and the numbers prove it.

Following a 3-2 loss to the Angels on Wednesday night, the Bombers’ skid has reached six consecutive games, and while the shutout streak finally ended, the offense still wasn’t able to generate much in another game where pitching kept them in the game before the bats couldn’t get it done.

Just how rough has this past week been for New York? Stathead’s Katie Sharp found just one historical comparison, as the 1908 Highlanders are the only other team in franchise history to score seven runs or fewer in a seven-game stretch, while losing at least six of them.

That Highlanders team finished with 103 losses, and in that feeble seven-game stretch from Sept. 1-7, they were shut out in three straight games by Washington Nationals ace Walter Johnson, one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

The Yanks haven’t had that excuse, as they have been blanked by an Angels pitching staff that had not been dominating opponents by any means, but the bats still haven’t been able to find their way out.

The Bombers were stuck in a streak of 30 straight scoreless innings before a Jazz Chisholm home run finally ended it, but still managed just two runs, bringing their total to seven over the past seven games. They are the only team in league history to score seven runs or fewer in seven games while striking out over 60 times during that stretch.

The Yanks have been brutal with runners on base, and their struggles have been highlighted by the slump of Aaron Judge, who is just 3-for-28 in this current swoon. Fortunately, they will have a quick turnaround to try and end the skid, as they take on the Halos on Thursday afternoon looking to avoid the four-game sweep and a seventh straight loss.
